Day 79 – Attachment Hugs

6 HUGS, 4 children, 2 adults (1 husband, 1 neighborhood friend)

Today I started worrying about not hugging enough people. I even began a mental list after lunch of the places that I could go to create opportunities for hugs.

My 16 month old is a creature of habit (I may have mentioned this before). He does not do well unless he gets 2 naps in and they must be taken in his crib. He will nap in the car or on the go, but it’s just not the same. I debated the car nap today just for the sake of my hugs then decided against it. I could always create opportunities after his nap. Not necessary. I brought him in to the play room after he woke up and he wouldn’t leave me alone. He kept grabbing my legs and chasing after me anywhere that I went. I finally lowered myself to his level to find out what he wanted. He wrapped his little arms around my neck so tight. He just wanted a hug. I melted into him and when I pulled away I even got one of those sloppy open mouthed kisses that only toddlers can give. His brother wasn’t going to let this moment pass without him. He paused his video game, came running over and hugged us both. I nuzzled into both of my boys and cherished every second of the moment because I knew that it would be over all too soon.

We took a nature walk later in the day and I encountered many neighbors as usual. If you were one of them, please do not take offense that I did not ask for a hug. The sweat was pouring off me in buckets and well, I will say it for you, Ewwwwww…. (But I did get some pictures of a cute bunny that let me get pretty close!)

Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.

  1. We have 3 little bunnies living in our backyard. The dog has even become their friend. They look just like your picture. I count their friendship as hugs.

Your blog continues to be very heartwarming.

    • Thank you Steve. We are big nature lovers in our family. We can’t possibly know what animals are thinking so any gestures of trust I count as a hug from them!

  2. such a great time….I was so preoccupied with my seminary studies when mine were that size…I’m sure I missed a few important moments…….bend down more often girl….you’ll be surprised how many hugs you’ll get.

    • It’s amazing how much perspective I get from young ones that haven’t even been around on this earth for 5 years! They truly “get it”. When did we lose it?
