10 HUGS, 4 children, 4 adults (1 husband, 2 neighborhood friend, 1 Smith’s Nursery employee who got excited when she realized I was the hugger)
I was brought to tears twice today by my girlfriends. The first time was in the morning when one girlfriend unexpectedly dropped by with these goodies:A little treasure trove of some of my favorite things. (The Vanilla Coke is something that I love but never get because I don’t frequent the ONLY store in the area that carries it.) She is always doing such thoughtful things for the people in her life. I can only hope that everyone has a girlfriend like her.
The second time was when another girlfriend came over to bring her children to my house. I am temporarily watching them until they begin school/preschool while their mom starts up her new career as a personal trainer. (She is amazing at it if her boot camp is any indication.) She came bearing gifts as well:Oh my goodness. I have been wanting a rotisserie FOREVER! She knew that and this was her way of showing appreciation for the help I am giving her. What she doesn’t understand is that she is actually doing ME a favor. Her kids give mine free entertainment. I can use the kids as my excuse for not getting any of my housework done. I get to spend my day either playing with them or playing on the computer. All this AND I get gifts too.
Moral of the story: Be nice to others and they will come bearing gifts. 🙂 Seriously, though, I don’t know where I would be without my good girlfriends. I am grateful for them everyday and can’t believe that I went so long without letting them know how much I appreciate them through the simple act of hugging. Girlfriendology posted the YouTube video for That’s What Friends Are For by Dionne Warwick and Friends shortly after I received these gifts. If you have a minute (and are prepared to be singing it in your head the rest of the evening), reacquaint yourself with it. It is such a touching video. It was very fitting and I watched the whole video start to finish (while singing along of course). Girlfriends, this hug is for you!
Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.
