Day 116 – Yesterday’s Wedding

13 HUGS, 5 children, 7 adults (1 husband, 1 Mom, 1 Stepdad, 1 friend of Stepdad, 1 Mother-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, 1 sister-in-law)

Wow, what a whirlwind! Last night’s wedding was probably the most fun that I have ever had! I mean, come on, just look at the smile on that groom. There was more dancing than I have done in a LONG time and my thighs are yelling at me today! I have gone back and updated yesterday’s hug count, but well, it is not exactly a precise number. I knew I wouldn’t be keeping track so I have just estimated. I knew I would be enjoying myself too much to be able to keep track.

This group of friends from the wedding are a very loving, touchy, huggy group of friends so I had more than one come up to me to talk about the blog and what effect it has had on them. This always warms my heart, but even more than that were the numerous hugs that I got from these amazing, incredible people. I have known them all for almost 10 years and they are not friends, they are family now. I swear, I couldn’t stop hugging them. And, I wasn’t the only one! I watched as every single one of them continuously hugged each other throughout the night. And, did I mention the core group of these friends are all guys? It is so rare to have such a close connection with this many friends as they have all had since high school and it’s even rarer for guys. It is such a phenomenon to watch and I feel privileged to be a part of this family. And, no, I most certainly did not reserve my hugs for just them, there were many of the bride and groom’s family and friends that I hugged as well. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, it is just too easy on such a joyous occasion.

As much as I would love to talk more about the wedding and my incredible friends, if I continue, this post will become a book, so allow me to mention at least one of the hugs from today that impacted me. (Actually 2 from the same man.) My stepdad’s friend stopped by this morning and had breakfast with us. Just before he left, he asked me about my bumper sticker. YEAH! My first bumper sticker mention! I explained the blog and he loved the idea. He shared with me his feelings about hugs and how he agrees that there isn’t enough of this kind of connection these days. It is so amazing to me the responses that I get about my blog. When people ask me what I do and I share my journey I don’t get the typical polite responses. You know, the ones where the few obligatory questions are asked  about how it’s going? Instead, I get full on conversations and people wanting to share with me how my journey makes them feel, or simply how hugs make them feel. It is amazing to be the catalyst that sparks these beautiful conversations and to move people to hug more. If you ever see me out and about, please share with me. I thrive almost as much on these hug conversations as I do with the hugs themselves.

Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.
