22 HUGS, 7 children, 15 adults (1 Mom, 1 Stepdad, 1 Dad, 1 Stepmom, 1 Stepbrother, 1 Sister, 1 Brother-in-law, 1 Sister and Husband of my Brother-in-law, 2 Great Friends, 1 Aunt and her Husband, 1 late Uncle’s Fiancee, 1 Cousin)
In preparation for a picnic/birthday party on my last night in CT, I made my way over to Shop Rite where my sister works. I spent far too long talking with her when I should have been getting back to help out with more cooking and/or cleaning. I had just gotten my toddler in the carseat when I see my Dad walking into the supermarket. I quickly get my son out of his seat and go in to surprise Dad even though I knew we would see him in less than 2 hours. When I got near, I put my toddler down and told him to go run to Bubble Grandpa (cute story, but I am already being longwinded). He is at that age that I wasn’t sure how he would react. I watched as he locked in to who I was talking about. He then proceeded to run to him. As he got close his arms stretched out wide in anticipation of a hug and most likely being hoisted up. It took my dad a minute to realize what was happening and who was heading toward him, but when he did? Oh man. It was a sight to see. His face lit up and his smile was beaming from ear to ear as he gathered my toddler in his arms. He exclaimed to me (with tears in his eyes?), “I can’t believe he just ran to me like that!” It was such special moment, and I wasn’t the only one to think so. A woman came up to me after and apologized for eavesdropping, but thought that was such a sweet moment. No need to apologize. I wish for more of us to witness these moments of joy and love on a more regular basis.
Tonight was just one more big hug fest on my vacation. I was surrounded with love by family and friends. I wish I was able to enjoy get togethers with them more often, but I made the choice to live in a different state years ago. I wouldn’t change that. I mean, around my family hugs are a given. My hugs are needed elsewhere and I am glad that I am in the position to give them to my new friends in my new home state. So, tomorrow, I will be headed back home where I belong, but it won’t be long before my next trip north is planned.
Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.
