Day 361 – Harper’s Fundraiser

121+ HUGS, Lots of kids, Lots of adults (Hubby kept count with a knitting counter and I hugged 121 different people today!)

Wow. I am speechless. Let me get right down to it, all in all I have raised (so far) $2192.64 for the Doughtie family. I can’t thank you all enough. There were so many special moments today I wish I could share them all, but I am so exhausted I don’t know if I could even remember them. There is one though that really stood out that I want to share with you.

She was a teenager whose mother didn’t seem interested in all in what I was doing. She kept looking at me and the table until finally when they were ready to leave she asked her mom if she could give a donation. Her mom responded with, “It’s your money (and not in a nice way).” She shyly placed her money in the bin. I asked if I could hug her and she melted in to my arms. With tears in her eyes she said, “I am so sorry you have to go through this.” I thanked her and let her know that I didn’t, but I wanted to help the family that did. She quickly changed her thought to, “I am so sorry they have to go through this” and then she walked away. I just wanted to cry. She was so obviously moved and it took everything I had not to grab her one more time in a great big hug. Instead, her 2 year old sister started ambling toward me so I put all of my energy into that great big hug. (She was my 100th person of the day by the way!)

Please enjoy the pictures that hubby so lovingly took.
