Growth is HARD

1 New Hug (1 Target employee)

My brain knows that I must live as my authentic self. I know I must make decisions that are the right ones for me, not ones that are based on how others will judge me. I know my family and friends will love me more the truer I am to myself. I just wish my heart understood this better because I also know I may lose some friends along the way. I may let others down. I may not make a decision that they believe is in line with my true character.

Sometimes challenges come along that make us rethink what we have believed all along. We know in our hearts what the right decision is but it goes against exactly how we always thought we would handle a similar situation. We realize we have judged others for making the exact same decision we know we need to make. It is at these times that we wonder who we really are. It can be quite shaking to the core. We lash out at others that question our motives and begin to question the decision we know we must make. Sometimes we go against our authentic self and make the popular decision. I know I will be a better mom, wife and friend when I choose to stick to the decision that really has already been made in my heart.

Life is about growing and hopefully creating a better and more authentic self with each passing day. The thing is it is soooo easy when life is going our way. When difficult decisions that are necessary in order for us to grow cross our path, well, let’s just say it is soooo HARD. Today on a day when we celebrate someone who is one of the biggest role models for being our authentic self I am reminded of this quote: The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

On another (much happier! note)- today is International Hug Day. Use this as your excuse to finally ask for that hug you have been wanting.

Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.
