Lessons From Friends

I hope you all have that friend. You know the one you spend hours talking to ruminating on life. I speak with mine only about twice a year, but we both always walk away knowing that we understand more about life because of what we have learned from each other.

We are both natural peacemakers. We are fixers. We don’t like others going through turmoil. We don’t like to see them hurt and want to take the pain away. My guess is that each of you reading this are the exact same way. In talking with her and hearing her struggles to fix other’s problems a statement flew out of my mouth that was as much of a shock to me as it was to her.

“The struggle is theirs to experience. Any attempt by us to fix the problem only exacerbates it and delays the lesson that they are meant to learn. Those around us will experience peace when we choose to be peaceful ourselves. That peace will radiate out and wordlessly touch those we hope to help.”

Woah. I needed to hear those words. (Just kind of weird that I was like a bystander listening to my own advice.)

Please accept this blog as my virtual hug to you.
