Habits only become habits with practice. It’s doing the same thing over and over until it becomes a part of who we are. This is why it is so important to practice some form of meditation everyday if you want to make it a habit. Why would you want to make meditation a habit? OH, I am so glad you asked! Here are some amazing benefits of meditation:
- You feel peaceful
- Less perceived stress
- You feel more confident
- You can receive answers to questions that have plagued you
- You become healthier
- You are able to have kinder, more respectful communication with others
- You become able to remove yourself from situations easier and not take things so personal
Some crazy, amazing side effects are more love, compassion and joy for yourself and those around you.
In a moment of meditation all of these benefits are possible. But, as I have heard (and said) before, “In the heat of the moment, I forget all I have learned and revert back to the angry/sad person with low self esteem that lashes out” Sometimes it’s by disrespecting others and expressing unkind thoughts. Othertimes, it’s by choosing negative behaviors that soothe our bodies but not our souls.
If you continue to practice meditation and create the habit, eventually those benefits stick with you throughout the day. They are there in the heat of the moment and while we won’t always make the best decisions, little by little we will notice the difference. “Wow, I didn’t automatically eat the entire box of cookies.” “Huh, what do you know, I let that transgression slide without tightening up in anger.” Next thing you know you may very well find yourself free.
