A little something about me

In April of 2011 I began My Year Of Hugs in the hopes of spreading love, joy and gratitude to everyone around me. I documented each and every day. Since then I have continued this blog as a way to continue to inspire others or at least that was my intention. Turns out I had a lot of growth to do. Thank you for continuing to follow me on my journey through life.

This has become an ever evolving blog. But, at the core I want to encourage love. I want to encourage growth and kindness. I want to encourage all of us to step farther outside of ourselves then we ever thought we could. Because we are all one and we all have unlimited Divine potential. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours…

Leave me a comment, share my page, come join me over on facebook or even better, ย feel free to reach out to me directly at melinda@myyearofhugs.com. Stories welcome!
With all of my love and hugs,

P.S. Most of the comments below were from what my About page used to say, just in case they don’t make sense to you.

    • Michael, your post is so beyond perfect. It conveys exactly what I am doing here. I would love to be able to link to it in a future post if I may. And, of course I am not going to delete your comment. Your link is an asset to this page.

      • I have read with interest your article in the WoI believe man’s Day magazine about hugs. a man named Leo Buscalia was the hugging champ. His books on Love and the best one Living learning and loving { i hope I got the title right} was a best seller. check out and please read these books for a great insight to hugging. Paul

      • Paul, thank you so much for thinking to share Leo Buscaglia with me. I had never heard of him (I am not sure how). After watching one of his youtube videos I can’t wait to check out his books. {HUG}

    • Thank you Ro! I actually have a Mom-ME moment most mornings with my coffee. I will take my kids outside so I can relax on the porch with my coffee while they play. Great way to start the day! I can’t wait to read more of your moments and try a few of them out! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Hey Melinda-
    Love this your blog & the approach you take with it. It feels sort of like a “pay it forward” kind of thing. VERY cool! Can’t wait to poke around a little more. So I see you are from Raleigh too. You’ll have to come to the Raleigh Mom Prom in July! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hi Aunt Minda. It was so wonderful to see you and the boys yesterday. I tried to post a note, but somehow it did not save. You look amazing. You new found “glow” is due to all the joy in your life and the love of hugs. I could have hugged you all day. I truly believe the best form of emotion and affection is through a hug. I think it is wonderful what you are doing and everyday you read this, I am sending you a virtual hug. I miss you and love you!

  3. Good idea, however, why don’t you hug all types of people? Looks to me like you decided that you were going to find people that “looks” like you and just hug them. Try that for 365 days and watch how much you grow.

  4. Thank you for taking the time to comment Isabella! I am not sure how much of my blog you have read, but I certainly have hugged all types of people. I try to hug people that I have had some interaction with to thank them for being in my life for however briefly. There is no one that I would dare think to exclude. I love all of Godโ€™s children. {HUG}

  5. Please don’t misunderstand me. I commend you on having enough LOVE in your heart to take the social risk and hug people. I have trouble getting some of my friends to hug their spouses! I am a fan of yours, so if it sounded as if I was being judgemental, please accept my apologies. {HUG BACK}

    • I actually appreciated your comment very much Isabella. This would be a very different message if I only hugged certain people. I expect my message to be challenged. That is how I will continue to learn and grow. So, thank you for that!

  6. Hi Melinda, what an awesome story, several years ago I was inspired by Juan Mann, he went viral with his Free Hugs campaign to write out another campaign. I would love to share it with you. A virtual hug to you and your family for now!
